Korean Adoption Celebration
Earlier this summer we had the pleasure of meeting a new friend at our pool. It all started because Beau was in this phase of staring at Asians. I hope that doesn't sound offensive, just stating the facts. So we were at the pool and Beau was staring at this sweet lady. After a few minutes, she came over and introduced herself. She is Korean and immediately knew that Beau was Korean too! (tangent: She said she thinks that one of Beau's birth parents must have had really light hair because his hair is quite light. I had actually never thought about it, but his hair is actually dark brown instead of black.)
As we began talking, we found out that our new friend was involved in the adoption community. Although she has not adopted, it is something that is very near to her heart.
She recently planned an amazing adoption celebration at her church and we were so blessed to be able to attend.
The theme of the event was based on Korean food trucks and it was so well organized. When we arrived, we were greeted by many members of the church (all Korean) and they were so warm and welcoming. Next there was a picture taking station where we had a family picture taken. There were even crafts for the kids. Home Depot employees were there and had brought little wooden trucks for the kids to put together and paint.
There was a wonderful program that included singing, dancing, and our homecoming video was even played at the event.
Finally, it was time for the food. And it was delicious!!! It was a fun night and it was clear that so much preparation had gone into the event to make it special.

At the end of the event, each family was given a goodie bag. Isn't that so nice? There was a Korean flag and dried seaweed inside.
Morning with Friends
Last Thursday we had a fun morning with friends. Beau met his friends Anna and Will for the first time. I formerly taught with their moms and it was fun to get together! Will's mom, Mandy, had us over for a nice walk and lunch. Thanks friends for a fun day!

It didn't take too long for the boys to discover the ice! Oliver was adorable because he would hold the ice so long it made his hands hurt. His sweet mom Dana would warm them back up and he would be back in the fun!

Nashville Trivia: Who made the phrase, "How-dee!" famous??
If you guessed Minnie Pearl, you are right! Do you know Minnie Pearl? Her married name was Sarah Cannon and her stage name at the Grand Ole Opry was Minnie Pearl. She was a member of the Grand Ole Opry cast for over 50 years and she was famous for wearing a straw hat with a price tag dangling on it. She also always said, "How-dee!" So there's a little Nashville trivia for you!
Minnie Pearl developed breast cancer later in her life and became an advocate for cancer research. The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center was named in her honor. People travel from all over the country to participate in clinical trials and receive treatment at this location. My dad is so blessed to have this great resource right in his community. While we wish he didn't have to go there at all, we are thankful that it is so close.
Today we visited the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center for a visit with my dad's radiation oncologist. While we were waiting, Beau found a Bible to read with Nana! He has recently started saying the word Bible! It is super cute and it actually is one of the clearest words he says!
