Beau.
Palmer.
Rhodes.
My three sons.
One of the most rewarding and challenging parts of parenting is discovering the personalities of my three boys. What makes them tick? What makes them feel special? How can I love on them individually? How do they learn?
This will no doubt be a lifetime journey. But as they get older, it is sort of like a game to figure it all out.
I always say that Beau's love language is proximity. He loves to snuggle and sit close. He is a homebody and is a happy camper at home. He likes to wake up, put on fresh pjs and relax. He knows that if he gets to put on fresh pjs, we aren't going anywhere immediately and he likes that. He needs very little "discipline" and will often change his behavior with a gentle reminder. One harsh word is often enough to break his spirit. He has a tender, tender heart. Maybe it is from becoming a big brother twice in less than two years, but he is a real baby lover. He also loves to help.... unloading the dishwasher, swiffering, cleaning the windows with windex, he is your man. Beau would be happy if he never had to wear socks, jackets, etc.
Palmer wakes up ready to roll! He is happy to immediately get dressed for the day and head out the door! He loves going on errands. I'm sure his age is part of it, but Palmer is a boundary tester. He likes to take things to the limits. If he is climbing, he will go as high as possible. If he is eating, he will enjoy every last bite. He also has a tender heart. When he wakes up, he asks, "Where's daddy? Where's Beau? Where's baby?" When I rock him and sing to him before bed, he just melts into your arms and will be perfectly still for as many songs as you are willing to sing. It may be the only time of the day that he sits still, so it makes the time extra special. Palmer loves all accessories... hats, belts, sunglasses, watches, etc.
Rhodes is still a guessing game, but he sure is a sweet baby. A quick snuggle or snack is usually enough to calm him down.
It sure is a joy and privilege to watch these boys grow everyday! Beau and Palmer are really starting to play together more and more, which is fun to watch. I'm sure they will get into their fair share of mischief too!
Hope I never stop learning about my sweet boys' hearts so I can connect with each of them in ways that make them feel extra loved!
